Adventure
History
San Juan County contains some of the most interesting archeology in North America with Ancient Puebloan sites covering the landscape in all directions. In the heart of Blanding, the Edge of the Cedars Museum houses the largest repository of artifacts in the Four Corners Region. Just west of Blanding is Cedar Mesa, an area world-renowned for its rock art sites and dwellings. Experience a closeness and respect for this culture in the ruins of an ancient civilization.
Parks and Monuments
Blanding has more State and National Parks and Monuments within a 100-mile radius than anywhere else in the United States. You can go north, south, east, or west and visit a different park or monument each day. Canyonlands National Park, Natural Bridges National Monument, Hovenweep National Monument, Arches National Park, and Edge of the Cedars State Park are only some of the options available, each with different landscapes to explore.
Recreation
Blanding is unmatched in opportunities for outdoor recreation. Hike, bike, or ATV ride, all from Blanding. There are numerous trails to choose from, all full of incredible scenery.
High alpine drives over the Abajo Mountains and Elk Ridge are gravel that require an SUV or stiff suspension. Highway 95, traveling west to Natural Bridges and Hite or Halls Crossing Marina at Lake Powell, is a designated scenic byway.
You can also take ATV trips or raft the San Juan River, hosted by local guides and outfitters.
